KÃœHNE LOGISTICS UNIVERSITY (KLU)

My undergraduate study experience in the BSc in Management program in Hamburg, Germany

My post-secondary educational journey started at Kühne Logistics University where I studied three years in their Bachelor of Science in Management program. I had an amazing and truly transformational experience: It confirmed my passion for commerce-related subjects, gave me access to an outstanding faculty and diverse student body from around the world. I can highly recommend it to kick-start your career in business and management: For me it is a little "jewel" in the tertiary education landscape in Hamburg and Germany.

KLU IN A NUTSHELL

ESTABLISHED: SEPTEMBER 2010

KLU was founded in 2010 and celebrated its 10 year anniversary this year. The university is relatively young which makes it a very dynamic place that is always open for new ideas from its students. Within this short period of time, KLU established itself among the best business schools in Germany and obtained the right to confer PhD's in 2017.

TYPE: PRIVATE BUSINESS SCHOOL

KLU is a state-recognized private business school. This means that you will need to pay tuition fees that currently amount to €5,480 per semester in the Bachelor in Business Administration program (standard track). Thus, the entire three year Bachelor program would cost €32,880. This might sound a lot for a German student given that our public universities are almost for free but you get access to high-quality education in ENGLISH that can rarely be found at undergraduate level.

OUTSTANDING RANKING RESULTS

KLU exists for only 10 years (which is not a lot for a university) and gained wide recognition for their teaching and research output during this time: All their programs are for instance either accredited by FIBAA or ASIIN. In the Wirtschaftswoche ranking from 2019, KLU scores #2 among all private universities and reaches #19 in the overall ranking of all research universities in the field of business administration in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The Handelsblatt ranking from 2014 ranks KLU at #3 for research output per professor among all German universities and assigns the highest research output per professor to KLU of all private business schools in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

RIGHT TO CONFER PHD'S

KLU was granted the right to confer PhD degrees on September 7, 2017. The Hamburg senate adopted the relevant resolution in a session on August 8, 2017. This is an achievement in its own right as only a few selected private business schools obtained this right. It highlights that KLU is a research intensive business school

FIVE THINGS THAT MAKE KLU A GREAT PLACE TO STUDY

1. OUTSTANDING FACULTY & EXCELLENT STAFF-STUDENT RATIO

KLU features many well-known academics from Germany and abroad. All their professors have an international background and are distinguished scholars in their field. KLU focused on quality right from the start - in their research and teaching - and this seemed to have paid off quickly: KLU is today among the best business schools in Germany and continuously expanding. I learned a lot from the faculty and benefited as a research assistant from their industry engagement and projects. The class sizes are relatively small at KLU: One professor for approximately 13 students is an absolutely dream ratio. It allows for highly interactive classes and engaging discussions. Loved it!

2. BEAUTIFUL, STATE-OF-THE-ART CAMPUS IN THE HAFENCITY

KLU's campus is located in the Hafencity - right next to the beautiful harbor. Here you can immediately sense the close ties that KLU has with research in logistics as well as management and economics. The campus is super modern and features besides lecture and breakout rooms for students a library, gym and student lounge. Everything is in good condition and KLU's is also a popular event venue in the evening after classes have finished. I still can't get enough of the stunning view that you have outside their windows!

3. INTERNATIONAL ENVIRONMENT

KLU's international office has established a network of more than 50 partner universities from around the world and is also a member of the ERASMUS+ program. This program facilitates the exchange of students and staff in Europe. As a KLU student, you will greatly benefit from their tight bonds to universities throughout the world during your mandatory semester abroad. It also means that you'll always meet people from other parts of the world on campus. Exciting!

4. CLASSES FULLY TAUGHT IN ENGLISH

All classes at KLU are fully taught in English. This means that you will significantly improve your English language skills while studying which will open doors for your worldwide - be it for employment or another degree.

5. OPEN DOOR POLICY AND THE 'KLU FAMILY'

KLU is well-known for its open door policy: Class sizes are relatively small and allow for a direct interaction with professors. I enjoyed this a lot as a student as it meant that I could ask questions at any point in time. The KLU faculty is highly responsive and supportive. This is definitely one of the major advantages over a public university. You'll immediately become part of the "KLU family" as a student and benefit from a friendly and vibrant atmosphere on campus. This already starts once you entered the building where you are usually greeted by your first name from the receptionists.
